A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. The most common type of cataract is related to aging.

Most cataracts develop slowly and don't disturb your eyesight early on, but as the cataract progress, it eventually interferes with your vision. The only treatment for a cataract is surgery, to remove the clouded lens and replace it with a clear intraocular lens.
